Trump Supporters Didn’t Think He Was Serious.

Now they’re facing severe consequences if he goes ahead and does what he said he’d do.

There’s a great novel by Ford Maddox Ford, The Good Soldier, that begins this way:

”This is the saddest story I have ever heard.”

That line would also apply to the article below. Sure, there are greata-bigga-huge problems with Obamacare that need to be addressed, and should have been addressed before the thing was rammed through. But you can’t just jerk the rug out from under people.

Here’s the most relevant section from the story. The woman who is being quoted is worried about her husband, who needs a liver trransplant:

“I don’t know what we’ll do if it does go away,” Mills said. “I guess I thought that, you know, [Trump] would not do this. That they would not do this, would not take the insurance away. Knowing that it’s affecting so many people’s lives. I mean, what are you to do then if you cannot . . . purchase, cannot pay for the insurance?”

Mills, who supported Trump for other reasons, figured Obamacare repeal was just talk. “I guess we really didn’t think about that, that he was going to cancel that or change that or take it away,” she said. “I guess I always just thought that it would be there. I was thinking that once it was made into a law that it could not be changed.”

I feel sorry for this woman and many others like her, but my goodness! What kind of responsible voting behavior is this? You vote for someone hoping that he’ll keep one set of promises (appointing pro-life judges, I’d guess) but not keep another (“I will repeal Obamacare”). Honestly.

In our household we are hoping that Trump will keep his word about not taking away the “no pre-existing conditions” clause, as our son had a severe bout with cancer two years ago. But what exactly is that promise worth? Probably not much. We may be facing some problems of our own in the coming administration. None of us voted for Trump, but now we’re going to have to live with the consequences of his election.

Anyway, here’s the article:

“Trump Voters Didn’t Take Him Seriously on Obamacare. Oops?”
