Here’s why I keep hammering on the disaster that we have brought upon ourselves by electing Donald Trump:
1. We must learn from our mistakes. It does no good to shut our eyes and keep waving the Trump pom-poms. Otherwise, we’re going to be like that clueless person who keeps marrying the same type of lyin’ cheater, or cheatin’ liar, over and over again.
2. We must hold our leaders accountable. So you voted for Trump. Fine. You have a responsibility as a citizen to hold his feet to the fire, just as you would have if Hillary Clinton had won. Voice after conservative voice is saying, “This man is not a conservative. He is dangerous. Stop applauding him.”
Here’s what needs to happen soon, before the damage becomes even greater:
1. TRUMP COULD TAKE HIS OFFICE SERIOUSLY AND DO THE FOLLOWING:
Release his tax returns. He has no reason not to do this unless he has something to hide.. (Which, I think, we all know in our heart of hearts that he does, right?)
Fire Steve Bannon and Steve Miller. Get those blasted white nationalists out of the White House. Trump doesn’t really care about their issues, I think it’s safe to say. His only issue is his own self-aggrandizement.
Stop taking every criticism personally and attacking the media.
And, last but by no means least:
STOP TWEETING.
If he’s not going to do the above four things (and who knows? miracles do happen), then we’re in for an incredibly long four years. (Well, three years and 10 1/2 months, to be exact). So the alternative is:
2. TRUMP COULD RESIGN.
It’s obvious that he doesn’t really want to do the hard work of, like, governing. He just wants to give speeches and hold rallies. Everyone would be so vastly, vastly relieved to have Mike Pence as President that I think the divisiveness and combativeness would die down at least for awhile. There’d be a huge price to pay down the road in 2020 for Pence’s and Ryan’s support of Trump (assuming that Pence would run, which he might have the sense not to do), and that campaign would be incredibly nasty, as every clip of Pence saying nice things about, and lying for, Trump would be played ad infinitum by the Democrats. But we’d at least be able to muddle through for the time being.
If neither of the above happens, and things continue as they are, then the 2018 elections may give the Democrats enough votes (along with appalled Republicans) so that
3. TRUMP WILL BE IMPEACHED.
This is the messy divorce instead of the swift annulment.
The above three options are based on all things continuing as they are. But we don’t know what will happen, obviously. If we do (and I devoutly say, God forbid) suffer some kind of attack, Donald Trump might rise to the occasion. Given his past record, that’s not too likely. And we will, of course, hope and pray that we never have to put that idea to the test. But he might. And then all bets are off.
Okay. Here are the two excellent articles:
